Set up a Raspberry Pi

Social media subagents run on a Raspberry Pi you own — not a rented cloud desktop. Set the hardware up first, then connect it to Microphone. The whole process is a card flash and one command.

What you need

Raspberry Pi 5, 16 GB recommended. A2 microSD, 64 GB minimum. Official 27W USB-C supply. A stable connection on your home network, wired if you have the option.

Flash and boot

Write a fresh Raspberry Pi OS image to the card, boot the Pi, and get it onto your network. Nothing about this step is Microphone-specific — if the Pi can reach the internet and you can open a terminal on it, you are ready.

Install

On the Pi, on your network:

Run this on the Pi:

curl -fsSL https://microphone.computer/releases/raspberry-pi/install | sudo bash

The installer sets up the subagent runtime and the scheduler, then prompts you to pair the device with your account.

After it is running

Leave the Pi on. Comments, posts, and likes stay on that machine. Next: connect it to Microphone. The longer explanation of what runs where is in how to run social media from a Raspberry Pi.

Frequently asked questions

Which Raspberry Pi model do I need?
A Raspberry Pi 5. 16 GB is recommended so several subagents run comfortably alongside the scheduler.
Does the card matter?
Yes. Use an A2-rated microSD of at least 64 GB. Slower cards work and will make everything feel broken.
Why the official power supply?
Underpowered supplies cause intermittent failures that look exactly like software bugs. The official 27W USB-C supply removes an entire category of debugging.
Does the Pi need to stay on?
It should be on whenever routines are scheduled to run. It draws very little power, which is part of why it suits work that is mostly waiting.
